Ian Shapiro talks about the importance of political parties
On March 20 Ian Shapiro presented a summary of the arguments he makes in a book (currently in draft form) coauthored with Frances Rosenbluth. In this book, Shapiro and Rosenbluth argue that political parties are the "core organs in democratic politics". The book develops this argument with respect not only to the UK and USA, but also to Germany, France and other democracies in Europe, as well as Japan and democracies in Latin America. Ian is Professor of Political Science at Yale, where he also directs the Macmillan Center for International and Area Studies.
